Consumer Credit Counseling Service of the Miami Valley
Since 1980, Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS), a local, non-profit credit counseling agency, has helped thousands of Miami Valley residents solve their credit and debt problems. Our certified credit counselors can show you how to take control of your money and achieve your financial goals. CCCS is a program of Lutheran Social Services of Mid-America and a member of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling.  We are accredited by The Council on Accreditation, a HUD approved housing counseling agency, and funded by United Way.

Counseling Services

The first step in getting out from under your financial burdens and becoming debt free is to call us for a confidential appointment.  At your appointment, our professional, certified counselors assess your financial situation and help you develop a lean but livable budget. As the only local credit-counseling agency in the Miami Valley, you have your choice of in-person, telephone, or Internet counseling.  So, if you feel you are getting overextended, give us a call. We can’t help you if you wait too long.

Debt Management Program

You may find that our Debt Management Program (DMP) is right for you.  We work with your creditors to reduce your monthly payments and interest charges.  Some creditors will allow us to “re-age” your account, which may stop late fees and other charges on your accounts.  By negotiating these items on your behalf, CCCS is often able to provide you with more affordable payments and a shorter payoff period.  Our DMP will combine all your obligations into one payment which we will disburse directly to your creditors.  Your payments to CCCS can be made by bank check or money order, or you can use our Automatic Deposit Service to deduct your payment directly from your checking or savings account.  This service will insure your payments are here on time – every time.

Credit Report Reviews

Do you know what your credit report says about you?  We can help uncover the mystery of your credit report. These confidential sessions will explain your credit report, help you identify and address any problems and show you how to protect yourself from identity theft.

Consumer Education Programs

Learn more about a wide variety of consumer financial topics through our educational programs. A large selection of classroom and community presentations covering topics like budgeting, credit, debt management and banking basics is available.

Reverse Mortgages

If you are over the age of 62, learn to use the equity in your home to supplement your income and achieve financial security. Our experienced counselors can explain the options and the pros and cons of each.

Default Counseling

Bring your mortgage up-to-date and keep it that way. Through individual counseling sessions we’ll help you explore all the possible solutions to prevent losing your home and analyze your cash flow to see how your income stacks up against your expenses. We’ll try to negotiate a solution with your loan provider. And we’ll help you prioritize your debts to avoid a situation like this in the future.

Can you pass the debt test?

How do you know how much debt is too much? Take our debt test to assess your financial health.

·    Do you lack a savings account or money for emergencies?

·    Are you using credit cards to buy things you used to pay for with cash?

·    Are one or more of your credit cards at or near the limit?

·    Are you only able to make the minimum payment on your credit cards?

·    Are you unsure about how much you owe?

·    Is an increasing percentage of your monthly income going to pay off debts?

·    Are you 30 days behind with any of your creditors?

·    Have you written post-dated or insufficient funds checks to get a creditor off your back?

·    If you lost your job would you have immediate financial problems?

·    Do you use cash advances to pay other credit cards?

A “yes” answer to two or more questions indicates you may benefit from credit counseling.
